In all the water bodies (ponds, streams, paddyfields…) around the vicinity of KMML we couldn’t see any signs of aquatic life. It was just still, reddish brown water. Red coloured ponds, dried up mangrove and shrubs are the common sights around KMML factory in Chavara. Biodiversity Loss at least in aquatic terms is cent percent. More studies need to be done to understand the overall extent of biodiversity loss in Panmana.
A solace in and around Panamana are the traditional groves (mostly ruined and unprotected) which are more or less in better health compared to other vegetations around. The groves may not be upto 100% in health, but they are indeed a promising sight and this aspect need to be understood more and here in may lie the solutions towards ecorestoration of this village.
